Andre Agassi
Retired American Tennis Legend
Wellhub
Andre Agassi is a retired American tennis legend, widely regarded as one of the sport’s greatest champions. Born on April 29, 1970, in Las Vegas, Nevada, Agassi turned professional in 1986 and went on to have an illustrious career marked by resilience, innovation, and a charismatic presence both on and off the court. Over the course of his career, Agassi won eight Grand Slam singles titles, including a career Grand Slam—achieving victories at the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open—a feat accomplished by only a select few in the history of the game. He also won an Olympic gold medal in singles at the 1996 Atlanta Games and captured 60 ATP titles in total. Known for his powerful return of serve, baseline dominance, and signature fashion sense, Agassi helped usher tennis into a new era of popularity during the 1990s and early 2000s. Off the court, Agassi is equally celebrated for his philanthropic work. In 1994, he established the Andre Agassi Foundation for Education, which has transformed countless lives through its focus on underserved youth and education reform. His efforts led to the founding of the Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy, a charter school in his hometown of Las Vegas. Agassi’s candid 2009 autobiography, Open, received widespread critical acclaim for its raw honesty and insight into the emotional and psychological journey of a professional athlete. Since retiring in 2006, he has remained active in philanthropy, business ventures, and mentoring roles within tennis. Andre Agassi's legacy extends far beyond the court—his impact on sports, education, and authenticity continues to inspire generations.
