Avoiding National Origin and Citizenship Discrimination in Your Hiring and Workforce Planning Practices [1896]
In this session we will review the increased scrutiny of employers by the Department of Justice’s Immigrant and Employee Rights Section in the hiring, firing and recruitment of work-authorized individuals as well as in the Form I-9 employment eligibility verification context. We will discuss the anti-discrimination provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Act and how well-meaning policies or business-driven decisions can expose companies to civil penalties, back wages, and monitoring, among other sanctions. We will also discuss how to create guidelines and policies to help recruiters and hiring managers avoid national origin and/or citizenship discrimination in the hiring and workforce planning context.
